The Winegar Hole Wilderness was designated specifically to provide high quality habitat for the grizzly bear.The United States Congress designated the Winegar Hole Wilderness in 1984 and it now has a total of 10,715 acres. Washakie Wilderness
Washakie Wilderness is named for Chief Washakie, a historical figure and leader of the Shoshone tribe of Wyoming. In 1972, the Stratified Primitive Area was joined with South Absaroka Wilderness to form the Wilderness area that now bears his name. The United States Congress designated the Washakie Wilderness in 1964 and it now has a total of 704,274 acres. All of this wilderness is located in Wyoming and is managed by the Forest Service. The Washakie Wilderness is bordered by the Teton Wilderness to the west.
